Thursday was the 66th observance of the National Day of Prayer. Ceremonies were held in Orange County at Bridge City and at the Courthouse in Orange. Prayers were given by different citizens for the nation, for Israel, for the state of Texas, for the county, our nation’s military, for schools, for churches, for businesses, for families in Orange County, and a closing moment of silent prayer. Vacant House Fire Thursday
A vacant house off 16th Street was damaged by fire Thursday morning. The Orange Fire Department went to house about 6:30 a.m. to the house in the 1400 block of 15th Street, behind Walgreen's. Captain Joe Mires said when firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the eaves. No one is living at the house, which had a 'For Sale' sign in the yard; so no injuries were reported. Phones Ringing At Appraisal District
The envelopes have been opened and the phones at the Orange County Appraisal District have been ringing. Property values are up across Orange County and homeowners are not happy. The letters informing the homeowners about the new values, along with an estimated possible tax cost, have been mailed. The Appraisal District's values on land and homes are used by public entities to calculate property taxes. On Friday evening, April 28th, The Alpha Nu Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society welcomed 33 new members for the spring 2017 semester.
