West Orange-Stark completed the District 22-4A season undefeated and in first place. Friday night the Mustangs picked up where they left off after district play taking Game 1 of their best of three Bi-District playoff series with the Diboll Lumberjacks 5-1 in Jasper. Starting Mustangs pitcher Jack Dallas was not overpowering in winning the ballgame, but there were no complaints heard on his performance. If Brianna Frenzel wanted to set the tone for the series she accomplished that feat Friday, striking out seven of the first eight batters she faced as the LCM Bears beat Huffman 3-0. It was Game One of a best of three series held at PNG High School. Frenzel, a sophomore, had a no hitter broken up in the sixth inning with a bloop single. Election Day for cities, school districts and special districts is on Saturday and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters may have to go to two different sites for different elections. WO Audit Contract Terminated
The City of West Orange has waited over two months for a municipal audit from the accounting firm of Sandersen and Scheffer, but has still not received a completed audit. The City Council in West Orange met a called session Friday morning with City Attorney Rex Peveto to discuss the city’s contract with the accounting firm. Jim Brasher, 71, of Vidor died Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017 at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care in Nederland, Texas. A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Jim was a member of Pipe Fitters Local Union # 195 and was project manager at Sabine River Works for over 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, dove hunter and bass fisherman. One Accident, One Arrest
Three people were injured, one seriously, during a rear-end collision about 9:30 Friday morning at the intersection of FM 105 and FM 1132. Sergeant Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety said a Ford pickup truck was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection waiting to make a left turn onto FM 1132. A Nissan passenger vehicle slammed into the back of the pickup. The Orange City Council has a special election set for June 17 to replace Dr. Wayne Guidry, who resigned to become superintendent of the Hubbard ISD. Friday, businessman Brad Childs filed to run for Guidry's spot in the Single Member District 2. The deadline to file for the position will be 5 p.m. Monday. Two Year Old Drowns
A 2-year-old boy drowned Thursday night in a pond outside of his house on Terry Road. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported the child was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was later pronounced deceased. Deputy Janois Grizzaffi said the sheriff's office was called about 8 p.m. to the house in the 1500 block of Terry Road off FM 105 outside of Vidor.
