One Day a Week for a Two-Year Degree
In an effort to provide learning opportunities to the busiest people, Lamar State College – Orange is reaching out to another category of non-traditional students. Starting in the Fall 2017 semester, students have the chance to complete an Associate’s degree program by attending hybrid classes only one day a week. Adrain Walter Van Devender, 71, of Bridge City, passed away on May 22, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Born in Abbeville, Louisiana, on January 5, 1946, he was the son of Adrain Leon Van Devender and Willie Mae (Gagneaux) Van Devender. Adrain retired, after 34 years, from Inland Orange. Bobcats Hire Two New Coaches
Monday night the Orangefield School Board approved the hiring of two new coaches. Jake McDonald, who spent this season as an assistant coach at Bridge City, has been hired as the boys new basketball coach. He replaces Sunny Hardy who left after one season. New Water Tower Going Up
The wall of Orange's new elevated water storage tower can be seen from Interstate 10 near Gloria Drive as the city expands water service to the west. Besides the new water tower, the city is building a water plant and extending lines through the acreage known as Eagle Point. Orange County Texas A&M University Mothers Club awarded $3000 this year in scholarship money for Class of 2021 Aggies. Kendall Gibson (left), Valedictorian from Bridge City High School, received a $1000 OCAM Scholarship. Kendall will be majoring in Engineering at TAMU. She is the daughter of Sara Gibson. Police Looking For Suspect
On May 21 at approximately 1:30 a.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near Broussard Road and Toomey Road in Vinton in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived they located the victim, who had been shot several times, laying on the ground and immediately rendered aid until medical personnel arrived. During further investigation detectives were able to identify the suspect in connection with the shooting as 37 year old Artemus C. Beasley. The Bridge City Cardinals playoff run is as hot as the weather was Saturday in Beaumont. The Cards are now 6-0 in the playoffs after beating Silsbee 2-1 in a walk off at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
