The Kiwanis Club of Orange recently presented two $1,000 scholarships to students from local high schools. The QB Culpepper Leadership Award was given to Bailey Noah, a graduate of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School. Bailey will study telecommunications at Texas A & M University. Jared Dupree, a West Orange-Stark graduate, received the Ben Culpepper Leadership Award. He will attend the University of Texas-Austin, where he plans to study health and society. Congratulations to the members of the 2017 All-KOGT Baseball Team. Once again it was a long season thanks to West Orange-Stark and Bridge City reaching the fourth round. Jack Dallas is our no-brainer MVP. Pitching and hitting, Dallas was at the top of both charts. We only hate that we won't be able to broadcast his games next season. BC Council Still Discussing Water
The City Council in Bridge City heard a citizen complain about the dirty water that the city is working to correct. Kenneth Prosperie aimed his message not so much at the city’s water department, but rather more at City Manager Jerry Jones. Prosperie presented each member of the City Council with a 13-page handout citing a history of the brown water in Bridge City, including a newspaper article from February 22 that was headlined with Jones decrying “fake water news”. Dunn Competes In All-American Tournament
Melvin Dunn of Orange qualified for the BFL All-American Tournament back in November. The tournament was held in Florence, Alabama last weekend on Lake Pickwick. Dunn finished 16th out of 49 and had fell just two pounds short of fishing the final day. He was also the only Texan in the tournament. "I lost two big fish on day one and it cost me," Dunn said. Dunn picked up some quality points to qualify for the All-American next year. Bridge City could be getting a farmers’ market starting in the next few weeks. Marian Pepper spoke to the City Council on Tuesday about her desire to start a market for fresh produce in the city. Pepper stated she raises chicken, has eggs, a garden, and makes jellies. She has mentioned the idea to some people and was informed previous such markets were started, but fell apart. The Commissioners Court held a possibly first ever meeting in Bridge City Tuesday. The Commissioners Courtroom in the Administration Building was having work done on the air ducts causing the change of venues.
