Burial will be at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta, Georgia. Born in Amory, Mississippi, on February 13, 1936, he was the son of Robert Allen Goddard and Lottie Lucille (Roberts) Goddard. Born in Orange, Texas, on October 7, 1957, he was the son of Hollis Huff and Yvonne Marze. Randy is a 1976 graduate of West Orange High School. Shots Fired At Police
On June 12, 2017 at 9:25 p.m. Orange Police Department received a call from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reporting shots fired in the area of Bridal Wreath and Dahlia. Orange Police Department officers arrived in the area and met with two Orange County Deputies. The deputies reported they were shot at by two black males and one deputy returned fire. The deputy’s vehicle was damaged from the gun shots. No persons were injured during the exchanged of gun fire. Police Reports Include Beer Thief
A man accused of being a serial beer thief was arrested Friday afternoon after a detective saw him leaving Walgreen's with a 12-pack of Budweiser. Detective Sergeant Stephen Ward reported Roderick Demond Simmons was arrested for theft and evading arrest. Simmons also had a county warrant issued for theft with a "no bond" order attached to the warrant. Sergeant Ward said Simmons had at least two previous convictions of stealing beer. The detective said he was stopped at the traffic light on 16th Street at Burton Avenue about 12:30 p.m. Friday when he saw Simmons leave with the 12-pack. Property Values Increase, Calls Do Not
Even though property appraisals increased across Orange County this year, the Orange County Appraisal District did not have more appraisal protests than usual, according to Chief Appraiser Mike Cedars. He said the district usually has 2,500 to 3,000 appraisal appears each year, but this year had a little more than 2,000. Cedars said it "was a little less than normal." The county has about 76,000 appraisals. When the appraisals went out in late April and early May, many homeowners complained in conversations and on social media about the increases. Longtime professional bass fisherman Zell Rowland decided to give away an autographed jersey for his 60th birthday. On his Facebook page he asked for those who were interested to enter and the lucky winner chosen was Patrick Rainey of Orange. Tuesday, June 13 is the last day for early voting in Saturday's Orange City Council runoff race. Terrie T. Salter and Michael Smith are in the runoff for the single-member District 3 seat held by Essie Bellfield. Extended hours for early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Orange Public Library. The runoff will be Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at North Early Learning Center.
