M A Garrett, Jr. was born May 11, 1952, and passed away April 13, 2026, at the age of 73.
He was a man who found his greatest peace and happiness in the outdoors, where the quiet of the woods and the stillness of the water brought him comfort. Whether he was hunting at dawn or casting a line into his favorite fishing spot, he embraced every moment nature had to offer. Those who knew him understood that the outdoors wasn’t just a pastime, it was part of who he was.
When he wasn’t outside, he enjoyed unwinding with video games or settling in to watch classic films, especially Westerns. He had a deep appreciation for the grit and character of old-school heroes, often spending evenings watching his favorite John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies.
Above all, he was a family man. He loved deeply and took great pride in the life he built with his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he treasured every laugh, story, and moment shared with them. Whether offering guidance, sharing his passions, or simply spending time together, he made sure they always knew how much they were loved.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dora Garrett; children, Michael Garrett, Donna Manning and husband Billy, Angela Crowe and husband Spencer; grandchildren, Caden Crowe, Ruby Manning, Katy Crowe, and Jerry Manning; mother, Waldean Garrett; siblings, David Garrett and wife Susan, Linda Garsee, and Patsy Reeves; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his father, M A Garrett, Sr.; and nephew, David Garrett.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2026, at Dorman – Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas.
