Jane Ellen Stevenson, 76, of Vidor, TX, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Beaumont, TX on July 21, 1949, and was a longtime resident of Vidor. Jane was a loyal and faithful Christian early in life attending First Church of God in Beaumont, twice on Sundays and every Wednesday. In attendance were her husband and two rambunctious young boys, this was not an option but a part of life just as the sun coming up every day. Jane played the piano and her sister Pat played the organ during fellowship and singing hymns. Later attending Cathedral in the Pines, led by Pastor Dabney until his passing.
By the grace of God and watching her daughter-in-law “Sandy” attending services led by Pastor George and having her children and husband in tow, decided to give this new organization a try. Mom was impressed and Pastor George grew on her and his delivery of God’s word. Jane attended Turning Point Church regularly and when her health hindered her attendance, she would call Jason or Sandy to make sure her tithes would be picked up and delivered to the offering plate on Sunday Morning.
For 57 years her husband never questioned what she wrote on those deposit slips, knowing her obedience to her faith was part of the success of our family endeavors. God blessed Jane with several talents; Loving mother, nurturing motherly figure to all that found themselves at our house growing up, Dedicated and Loyal wife to her husband up to the day she took her last breath, she managed a busy “Baison Water Wells” drilling company family owned and operated for over 20 plus years doing her part, planning family reunions, vacations and numerous hunting opportunities that classified as “NON-OPTIONAL also allowing our gang to enjoy countless fishing trips that were guaranteed to be very eventful to say the least. Sharing is caring and we were very fortunate to have a mother that enjoyed our passions, wanting to be part of lots of wonderful memories we cherish so much.
As a new chapter in life was unfolding for the Stevenson family, Jane was afforded the opportunity to attend Lamar University to study Criminal Justice which led to a bachelor’s degree and then further studies to gain her master’s degree in criminal justice. This opened the door for a successful position leading a new organization called “CASA” which advocated the protection of children and helped with judicial proceedings concerning the welfare of children. In 2009 CASA was serving 216 children in seven counties on 136 cases. That was just an example of one year out of 20 years serving as the director of” CASA”. Jane was an important tool in the success of this organization up to her retirement and then helping locate new leadership that met up with the requirements of board members. Jane was asked to step back into her old role two separate occasions due to the right replacement having not yet been located and without a second thought, being selfless and putting those children in need priority one. Ultimately retirement came and in short order so did grandchildren and even sooner great grandchildren.
Jane has enjoyed the last 20 plus years traveling (attempting to see all 50 states) with her husband and knocking off occasionally a bucket list item or two. Attending dance recitals, high school football games, graduations, family weddings, baptisms at church, YMBL activities and anything else that her attendance was requested she made the rounds.
After Hurricane Harvey, with her husband’s great efforts and mutual determination to create a home on ground that was to never flood, Stevenson Ranch was created. The new home provided safety and security they both deserved. Jane told her husband that she was happy and they were lucky to be able to afford this new home, never having to worry about flooding again.
Jane acknowledged that no one is perfect but GOD, and when SATAN is at his busy job tearing away at the fundamentals of Christianity, we are to find strength and comfort knowing GOD is in control, allowing our faith as Christians to overcome the worldly persecutions that come in all shapes and sizes.
GOD first, then family and if anything is more important than your position with your savior it’s time to reprioritize. Jane showed her family how to leave this life with dignity and complete conviction that with God in control, death on earth is the beginning of our reunion with our Heavenly Father. Not once did she complain that life was unfair and why can’t things be different; instead, she took the high road listening to her loved ones and giving advice as she always did…….at the end of mom’s journey the last words she spoke were; “I LOVE YOU MORE”
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Henry R. “Sonny” Stevenson, sons Jason R. Stevenson and wife Sandy and Jonathan P. Stevenson and Ms. Stephanie Johnson, sister Pat Maggs and husband Charles, grandchildren: Colton R. Stevenson and wife Sarah, Lexi Fountain and husband Cameron, Jaci L. Stevenson, Rhiannon Stevenson and fiancé Brendden Schwent, Charles H. Stevenson, Maylan Stevenson, along with numerous great grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mildred Garrard and brother Charles Garrard.
Jane fulfilled her duties at every position in life with her family and trust in God. She loved her friends and would never abandon friends. Rest in peace and know we will be reunited again following the path that has been set before us.
