
The Houston Astros selected OF Logan Hughes from Texas Tech University with the 17th overall pick and RHP Jack Radel from the University of Notre Dame with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft.
Hughes, 21, hailing from DeLand, Florida is a 5’11” and 211-pound left-handed hitting outfielder for Texas Tech University. Hughes spent his freshman season at Stetson and hit for a .913 OPS before transferring to Texas Tech for his sophomore and junior seasons. In 2026 for the Red Raiders, Hughes slashed .375/.510/.735/1.245 (75-for-200) with 68 runs scored, 16 doubles, a triple, 18 home runs and 70 RBI with 50 walks. He played in all 55 games for Texas Tech, ending the season as a four-time All-American.
Radel, also 21, is a Sioux Falls, South Dakota native and spent his three-year college career at the University of Notre Dame. A 6’5”, 250-pound right-handed pitcher, he made 15 starts in 2026 for the Fighting Irish and pitched for an 8-3 record and a 3.29 ERA (32ER/87.2IP) with 116 strikeouts. Radel finished the season being named to the First-Team All-ACC, a two-time ACC Pitcher of the week (February 23, March 23), and made the 2026 ACC Championship All-Tournament Team.
