Members of area fire departments participated in the 5th Memorial Stair Climb at Edison Plaza in Beaumont as a tribute to those firefighters lost on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb remembers the 343 firefighters who perished during the tragic events of 9/11 as well as those who have passed since then from health complications due to working the scene.
The goal is to climb 2,200 steps, representing the 110-story climb by firefighters at the Twin Towers.
Among those participating were firefighters from Orange County ESD 2, 3, and 4.
One of the organizers, Jessica Garza, said, “And to the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, and to every firefighter who has given their life in the line of duty: we remember you. We remember the families who waited for someone who never came home. We remember the brothers and sisters who carried empty seats in their firehouses. We remember the sacrifice behind every badge, every helmet, and every set of turnout gear.”
