Louisiana State Police Trooper R. Jones with Troop D reports LSP troopers were attempting to stop a driver for speeding in the Lake Charles area around 5 a.m. Sunday.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Jonah Dennis, allegedly refused to stop and continued driving, leading troopers on a high-speed pursuit. Speeds reportedly reached up to 100 miles per hour as the pursuit continued into Orange.
After entering Texas, Dennis exited I-10 near the Adams Bayou turnaround and continued westbound on Lutcher Drive. Shortly after 5:45 Sunday morning, he crashed into a barrier wall.
Dennis was transported to a Beaumont hospital with minor injuries.
He is expected to face charges including speeding, improper lane use, aggravated flight, and DWI.
Dennis, who is from Port Arthur, reportedly told police he had been at a bar drinking, which investigators believe may have contributed to his decision to flee.
Louisiana State Police are seeking an arrest warrant for Dennis so he can be extradited back to Louisiana to face the charges.
The turnaround has once again been closed by TxDOT.
