The Toronto Blue Jays turned to right-hander Chad Dallas in a pressure-packed situation Wednesday night against the Royals, and the Orange native delivered.
Dallas entered in the third inning with the bases loaded, two outs and veteran Salvador Perez at the plate.
He responded by striking out Perez to end the threat and keep the Blue Jays out of trouble.
Dallas (2-1) went on to pitch 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out four as Toronto worked through a bullpen game.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider praised Dallas for his poise and ability to make big pitches when the team needed them most.
Schneider said Dallas knew when his opportunity was coming and took advantage of it, calling the performance one of the best outings Dallas has had.
With Major League rosters set to expand from 26 to 28 players next week, Dallas could have a good opportunity to remain with the Blue Jays and continue providing valuable innings out of the bullpen.
