The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 12, just west of Farm-to-Market Road 1136, that occurred Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 5:49 p.m., a Newton County Sheriff’s patrol unit was traveling west and reportedly hydroplaned into the eastbound lane where it struck a GMC 2500 pickup.
The driver of the Newton County patrol unit, identified as Deputy Sonnier of Sour Lake, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the GMC, identified as 42-year-old Teddy Breaux of Orange, was treated on scene. His passenger, a 37-year-old female of Orange, was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
