On Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:53 a.m., Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 4300 block of Bertie Street in Vidor after it was reported an infant at the residence was not breathing. Upon arrival, deputies located a 1-month-old female infant with severe injuries to her body. Deputies and emergency medical personnel began providing life-saving measures to the infant. Dispite their efforts, the infant died at the scene.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division initiated an investigation into the infant’s death. Investigators have processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and interviewed family members. A dog located inside the residence has been quarantined.
Orange County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Chad Jenkins has ordered an autopsy.
Sheriff Bobby Smith stated, “We are in the early stages of an active investigation; further information will be made available at a later time. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are grieving and affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
