Earlier this month West Orange-Stark football coach Hiawatha Hickman learned that he was the recipient of the Bum Phillips Golden Triangle Coach of the Year award, and on May 21 he received his ring at the Museum of the Gulf Coast.
Hickman lead the Mustangs to the State Title game in 4AD2 in 2025.
Presenting him his ring was Bum Phillips’ son Wade who started his coaching career in Orange before going on to coach in the NFL, including a stint as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Hickman had a group of supporters on hand including his parents and he was surprised by his college coach who came down from Dallas for the presentation.
