A 62 year-old Vidor teacher was killed in a head-on crash Friday night on US 90 in Liberty County.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened around 8:45 p.m. when a westbound 2016 Kia SUV, driven by a 27-year-old female, attempted to pass a Nissan SUV and collided head-on with the eastbound 2023 Kia driven by the Darla Marino of Vidor.
After the initial impact, the westbound Kia struck the Nissan before spinning onto the westbound shoulder. The eastbound Kia came to rest in the eastbound lanes, while the Nissan left the roadway and ended up in a ditch.
Both Kia SUVs caught fire after the crash. Marino was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the Nissan were injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
