The Boston Red Sox have added 10 non-roster invitees to the team’s 2023 Spring Training roster and for the first time in his career, Bridge City’s Chase Shugart will be making that trip.
The right handed Shugart, 26, split the 2022 season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, going 5-5 with a 5.31 ERA (37 ER/62.2 IP) in 45 appearances (one start) while making his debut at each level. Following the season, he pitched for Estrellas Orientales of the Dominican Professional Baseball League, allowing six runs in 3.1 innings over four appearances.
Shugart was selected by Boston in the 12th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas at Austin. He is 17-16 with a 4.13 ERA (122 ER/265.2 IP) in 87 minor league appearances (43 starts).
