Ten year old Easton Searles of Orange is having a Summer to remember. He’s getting to play the game that he loves down in the Dominican Republic and he’s getting to do it in the red, white and blue.
Searles is one of 31 kids who made the team and will be with one of the two 10U Teams representing Team USA in the Latin America Baseball Classic.
After being approached about the opportunity, the IF/P went through a tryout and interview process before being selected. The tournament will be in August.
He was recently recognized by the Orange City Council as he will represent the area with great pride. His parents, Michael and Laurie, said the community has been gracious as they held fundraisers to help pay for this journey.
“Our hometown has shown up in ways we’ll never forget,” Laurie said. “Family, friends, local businesses, coaches, teammates, neighbors, and even complete strangers have rallied behind Easton. They bought raffle tickets, sponsored fundraiser squares, donated, attended city council meetings, shared his story, and constantly reminded him that he wasn’t chasing this dream alone.”
Easton has remained humble through every milestone, grateful for every opportunity, and committed to working harder each day. He understands that wearing “USA” across his chest is both an honor and a responsibility.
The team is coached by Jim Parque who pitched five seasons in the major leagues (98-03). Easton will also have two of his select teammates from Southeast Texas with him, Tristan Ticas and Easton Gay.
