
The Celebration of Life for Mr. Ronald G. Mills, Sr., 75, of Orange will be held during Walk Thru Visitation Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 9 until 10 am at Salem United Methodist Church. Mask are required to enter the church.
Family Graveside Services will be held at 11am at Magnolia Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home. The public is asked not to enter the cemetery grounds and observe services streetside.
Ronald Gene Mills, Sr. was born March 16, 1945 in Orange, Texas and was raised by his great grandmother, Odellia Marie Washington, known to all as “T Fome”. Raised in Orange, as a youth he was a Certified Lifeguard. He was a star basketball player at Emma H. Wallace High School and graduated in the “Class of ‘64”. Upon graduation he was the recipient of a basketball scholarship from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
In 1966 he united in Holy Matrimony with Barbara Ann Grevenberg. To this union 3 kids were born, MarCia, Ronald Jr. and Cynthia. Later he was known to his grandkids as “Grandpa” or “Tall Paw Paw”. He retired after some 30 years with Southwestern Bell/AT&T.
An active member of the Salem United Methodist Church, he sang in the Male Chorus, taught Sunday School, was an excellent Bible Scholar, was a Certified Lay Speaker , a Certified Lay Servant Minister and was also a member of the United Methodist Men of Orange County. He was honored and blessed to travel with a group of Methodist Missionaries to the Holy Land and visit Jerusalem.
Always a big sports enthusiast, he grew to really love golf and tennis. He loved to talk, never met a stranger, and was liked and respected in the community. He would do anything to help his family, friends, and community.
He passed Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann, his father, Eugene Mills and his mother, Autho Lee Menard Mitchell.
Cherishing his memory are his children, MarCia LeVias (Roland) of Austin, TX, Ronald Mills, Jr. of Orange, and Cynthia Mills-Teate (Robert, Jr.) of Beaumont, TX, step-parents Robert G. Mitchell (Mary Ann) of Orange, brothers , Rev. Herbert Winston (Debbie), Eric Mitchell (Deborah), Mark Mitchell (Elizabeth), and Michael Mitchell (Donna) all of Orange and Joseph Mitchell (Ingrid) of Moreno Valley, CA, sisters, Vanetta Mills of Huntsville, TX, Lucy Nell Boudreaux (Junior) of Orange, Clara Mitchell of Houston, TX, Jacqueline Mitchell of Sacramento, CA, Rose Mary Floyd of Portland, OR, and Patricia Roberson (Larry) of Oakland, CA, and seven grandchildren.
