After falling to Silsbee 6-5 in Game One of their series the Bridge City Cardinals came back strong in Game Two Thursday with an 11-1 win in six innings. “We’ve responded well all season,” said Head Coach Chad Landry. “The practice following a loss has been exactly what you want to see as a coach. Full buy-in, they know what we’ve got to do to get better.”
“We swung the bats really well tonight. We put up 14 hits against a good scrappy Silsbee (5-1) team that hit us on Tuesday like we haven’t been hit all year,” Landry said. Hunter Ford was 3-4, CJ Riojas hit a bomb and Austin Frederick, Ashton Sumrall and Landon Leleaux had two hits each. Brady Havard came off the bench to hit an RBI single to end the game early.
Starter Owen Tucker gave up one run on four hits in 4.1 innings and Slade Herman pitched a scoreless 1.2. “OT was on short rest with a Thursday game and he competed well tonight,” Landry said. “He’s tough and a great senior leader on our ballclub.”
The Cards (6-2) will start a series with Jasper at home Tuesday for Senior Night.
