Bears Drop To 0-3
Friday was Patriots Day in more ways than one. The Goose Creek Memorial Patriots held on to a 30-23 win over the Little Cypress Mauriceville Bears. The Bears fought back from a two touchdown deficit late in the game to tie the game at 23 all. But a second attempt at recovering an onside kick failed and GCM drove the ball down the field and scored with 2:43 left. The Deweyville Lady Pirates defeated the Kountze Lady Lions in 3 games Friday night in Deweyville 25-13 ,25-11, 25-23. The Lady Pirates were on fire for the night hitting a combined .307 for the night with 39 kills and only 11 hitting errors. The Lady Pirates also made all but one serving hitting for a 98.6% serve rate while accumulating 14 aces. Shaylin Dupuy had 30 assists and 6 digs. Kids Honor First Responders
St. Mary Catholic School students honored their local police officers by writing a personalized thank you card to each officer. Each student received a name of one local officer and wrote their thanks and appreciation for their service and dedication to our community. Armed Robbery in Historic District
A man and woman were robbed at gunpoint as they left a house in the Old Orange Historic District about midnight Thursday. Orange police report one of the two male robbers held a silver pistol to the man's head. Officer Isaac Henry said the robbers stole two smart phones, a gold necklace, gold bracelet, gold watch and cash from the couple. In addition the robbers took the key to the woman's Chevrolet Trailblazer. The robbery was at a house in the 800 block of Orange Avenue. The Mustangs played a strong second half last week as West Orange-Stark went into The Reservation and beat the Port Neches-Groves Indians to remain undefeated. Coach Cornel Thompson identifies some Mustangs on the defense that played strong games in the victory. Chris Longmire, 33, of Vidor died Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 at his residence. A native of Bossier, Louisiana, he was a longtime resident of Vidor an Austin. Chris was a 2000 graduate of Vidor High School. He was a member of the White Cane Association and the Blind and Deaf Association.
