Orange County Health Inspector James Scales gave perfect scores to three businesses dealing with food during the first part of September. During that time, he made 20 inspections. Five received no scores. Two were church soup kitchens, First Presbyterian and Mount Sinai Baptist Church, both in Orange. The churches had no violations but were not scored. At approximately 2:25pm, there was a one vehicle crash on Highway 62 in Orange County. The crash occurred approximately two (2) miles north of Highway 87. A 2004 Ford SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 62, just south of FM 105, in Orange County. Commissioners Meet
Orange County is being sued for the second time in a couple of years following a death in the Orange County Jail. County Judge Brint Carlton said the county was not insured against such lawsuits prior to the Commissioners Court approving such insurance for law enforcement officers and county officials earlier this year. Carlton stated that he was surprised to find the county was not insured when he took office and explained that you don’t want to not have insurance with the possibility of being sued by the public for a number of causes whether there are legitimate reasons or not. Saturday Accident
Five people in two cars were taken to hospitals Saturday after a rear-end collision on Old Highway 90 near Foreman Road. Orange Police Officer D.Y. Myers reported that a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 66-year-old Mack Toler of Orange was pulling another vehicle. Toler was traveling east in the 1400 block of Old Highway 90. A Ford Escort, driven by 53-year-old John Hardin, hit the back of the vehicle that Toler was pulling. Hardin, along with a 9-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy in the car, were taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
