Community Cleans Orange
Members of the Gate City Masonic Lodge and their families took on cleaning up Simmons Drive Saturday morning. They were among hundreds of community volunteers Saturday picking up trash and garbage for the 20th Annual clean-up sponsored by Shangri La. This year the group concentrated on the Sabine River instead of Adams Bayou. Boaters took crews out into the river. Other groups of volunteers spread across Orange, West Orange and Pinehurst. Store Robbed Again
For the second time is as many days, the Kwick Stop #2, located at 1427 Strickland Drive in Pinehurst was robbed. On Saturday, Feb. 28 at 8:30 p.m., a white male entered the convenience store. He approached the counter and placed several items down as if to pay for them. He then demanded cash from the register while indicating he had a weapon in his pocket. The clerk complied. Entergy Helps Elderly
Orange County’s elderly and disabled in need of assistance with energy bills have a new friend who can help. Friends Helping Friends, a nonprofit organization that has helped Orange County residents for nearly 30 years, has picked up the administrative reins of Entergy Texas, Inc.’s equally long-running program, The Power to Care. The Power to Care will pay two energy bills per year for qualified elderly and/or disabled customers who may need help. Filing Deadline, Who’s Running?
- The Orange City Council will have an extra position up for election on May 9. District 2 Councilmember Tommy Ferguson filed to run for mayor Friday morning. City Secretary Rhonda Haskins said that triggered his resignation from District 2; however he will serve until a successor is chosen. The Orange City Council has scheduled a called meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday to set the special election for the District 2 seat. West Orange – Stark High School students swept the top three places in News Writing competition, as well as placed students in all journalism events, to win the Journalism team trophy at the Sabine Pass UIL Academic Meet this weekend. LCM Students Play McNeese
These LCM Student Musicians were selected to participate in the McNeese High School Honor Band. The students were chosen after being recommended by their band directors in December, and completing rigorous audition process. After participating this weekend, several of the students are now considering scholarship offers from McNeese State University. Students from Louisiana and Texas are invited to audition for the band. BC Sends Two To State
The Bridge City Girl's Powerlifting Team put up a great fight at the Regional Meet held in Palacios, Texas of Thursday, February 26 and had two qualify for State. Junior, Emily Warren came in third place and is a state qualifier because she lifted a total weight of 805 pounds. Emily also broke the Regional Record on Bench, by benching a total weight of 160 pounds. Senior, Jacey Walker, was the Regional Champion for the 114 weight class.
