WO Budget Approved
The West Orange City Council adopted the city’s budget for next year on Tuesday evening. The $3.5 million budget has a tax rate of 42.5 cents per 100 dollars value which is unchanged from this year. The Council approved the agreement between the city and the West Orange Municipal Police Association which includes a 2 percent pay raise for the police officers. OF 8th 6 Central 6 The 8th grade team for the Bobcats found themselves in a hole early giving up a touchdown to the Central Canines on the opening drive of the game. Orangefield put a drive together right before the half, but could not punch in a score before time expired. The defense lead by Kent Michael and Kadeon Evans manage to shut out the Canines after their initial score, but the offense could only muster one second half touchdown. Kiwanis Donates $550 To CASA
Local foster children had some summer fun recently thanks to a donation from the Kiwanis Club of Orange, Texas. The group donated $550 to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for the summer celebration that included waterslides, a bounce house, and food. Kiwanians were also on hand to help cook hot dogs and links and serve refreshments. “The reaction on the children’s faces was priceless. Orange Hotel Motel Tax Money Distributed
The Redfish Elite Series Classic will have its final season tournament in Orange in April. The tournament is broadcast on the Discovery Channel's Destination America. On Tuesday, the Orange City Council approved using $20,000 in hotel-motel occupancy taxes to help the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce sponsor the event. A 2-by-4 board blocked a burglar from getting into the back door of the Smoker's Express on 16th Street early Tuesday morning. Orange Police Officer Patrick McDonald reported the burglar apparently injured himself while breaking down the door because police found blood. McDonald checked the store about 1:19 a.m. because when he was on patrol he heard an alarm sound from the back door. When breaking down the door, the would-be burglar set off an exit alarm. The WOSMS Stallions kicked off their season with 3 wins against CO Wilson. The 7th grade team scrimmaged and won by a score of 36-6. Clint Williams and Armani Wallace each scored twice with Jasachin Harris and Andre Thomas each scoring once. The entire defense was solid though out the scrimmage with a highlight from Jerrold Brown intercepting a pass. The 8B team shutout the Bulldogs winning 22-0.
