Recent rains have resulted in a hatch off of flood water mosquitoes not only in Orange County, but also in neighboring counties and parishes according to Mosquito Control Director Patrick Beebe. He said the biggest problem is with the very aggressive salt marsh mosquitoes. Beebe stated the salt marsh mosquito does not bite just in the normal early morning and evening periods, but all day long. The Orangefield Bobcats got sweet revenge on Houston Worthing Thursday night, defeating the Colts 37-28 and ending their season after Worthing had defeated the Bobcats at home during the regular season. OF jumped out to a 19-7 lead, scoring on their first three possessions. Christopher McGee scored twice and Hunter Evans scored the other TD. It looked like they might put away the Colts in the first half as they were about to score on their fourth possession when they fumbled at the two. Splash Down in Bridge City
The much anticipated Bridge City Splash Pad is open for fun after a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon. City Manager Jerry Jones said the splash pad is the culmination of a lot work at the city park. Jones added the attraction has been in the works for a few years and bond money this year made the $160,000 project possible. He concluded Bridge City is really pleased with it. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:40PM, Officers with the Orange Police Department Narcotics Division, assisted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, executed a search warrant at 411 Crepe Myrtle. Officers recovered approximately 6 grams of crack cocaine, approximately ½ ounce of marijuana, 15 Hydrocodone pills, and two handguns. Man Stabbed Wednesday
Orange police and firefighters gave emergency aid Wednesday afternoon to a man that had been stabbed in the thigh. He was being driven in a car to a hospital by woman speeding southbound on Highway 87 North. She called authorities about 3:30 p.m. to tell them about the stabbing. Police and firefighters met the car at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive to help the man until Acadian Ambulance arrived. The man was able to hop to the ambulance gurney and was taken to the hospital. Orange Building Permits
Orange's new splash pad in Navy Park is now under construction and should be ready for play for next summer. The city received a building permit for the $58,500 splash pad in October. Federal community development block grants designated for low-income neighborhoods are being used to pay for the splash pad. October building permits included three new houses$90,000 being built by James Turner Construction. The houses are part of a federal hurricane recovery program to help low-income homeowners whose houses were destroyed in hurricanes.
