The City Council of West Orange voted Tuesday to continue its support of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Mayor Roy McDonald said the council did have questions for County Judge Brint Carlton who spoke in support of a revised EDC. McDonald informed that council members asked the judge about the makeup of the revised corporation and what would be West Orange’s expected financial responsibility to be a part of it. Wanted Man Caught
Orange police before noon Tuesday arrested 17-year-old David Anthony Riggs Jr., who has been charged with aggravated robbery. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said officers had a tip that Riggs was in the Sabine Park Apartments at 111 Pine Avenue. They found him hiding behind a shower curtain in a bathtub in an apartment. Lost His Head
Restaurant owner Mike Lemoine lost his head and he wants it back. "It's the biggest deer I ever shot," he said. Lemoine had the eight-point buck head and the head of another deer in the back of his pickup truck at his home in the Cypress Bayou subdivision. He left the heads outside in preparation for mounting. But last week when he went to get them, they were gone. His truck was parked in the driveway of his house. At first he thought an animal might have taken the heads, but he found no scratch marks showing a raccoon or other critter climbed up. SRA Opens Gates
The Sabine River Authority has opened gates at Toledo Bend Reservoir and Deweyville is under a flood warning for low-level flooding of the river. SRA has 5 gates open at 1 foot each. The lake level this morning was at 172.36 feet with the lake considered full at 172 feet. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Sabine River at Deweyville. Five months after voting to cut funding to the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the Commissioners Court Tuesday voted to fund the economic corporation through the remainder of the fiscal year. County Judge Brint Carlton reversed his vote from back in July and made the motion to fund the EDC adding he believes there is a future for a revised Economic Development Corporation in Orange County. The Orangefield Lady Bobcats got a big district win Tuesday at home, beating the LCM Bears 37-33 in Overtime. The game was tight throughout and at the end of regulation it appeared OF freshman Emmi Lummus would win the game as she hit one of two free throws to give OF a 32-31 lead with 2 seconds left. But she committed a foul with .8 seconds and sent LCM's Maddie Frey to the line where she sank the first free throw to tie the game, but then missed the second one and the game went into OT. Shirley Ann Roccaforte, age 67, died at her home in Bridge City, Texas on Monday, December 14, 2015. Her death was sudden and unexpected, with cause yet to be determined. Shirley was born December 15, 1947 to Paul and Betty Jo Potter in Phoenix, Arizona, where she also graduated from high school.
