BCISD Supt. Search
The Bridge City ISD school board is having a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 to screen applicants for superintendent. The board’s timeline for the search includes naming a finalist on January 13 or later. In October, Superintendent Mike King announced he would leave the job at the end of January to work in the private sector. The board has hired Arrow Education Services to assist in the search. LCJH Construction Theft
Orange police are investigating break-ins at the Little Cypress Junior High construction site and the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Highway 87. Corbell Masonry, the contractor for the junior high construction project, called police at 7:45 Monday morning to the school at 6765 FM 1130. An estimated $4,900 of equipment had been stolen. The most expensive item was a $3,800 Bobcat welder. Other missing tools included a circular saw and screw gun. More Gates Opened Wednesday
The Sabine River Authority now has nine gates dam gates open at Toledo Bend Reservoir. This morning, seven gates were open at one foot each. Two gates were open at two feet. One generator is operating 24 hours a day while the second generator is down for repairs. The National Weather Service has flood warnings for the Sabine River at Deweyville with minor flooding expected. This morning, the river was at 23.9 feet, almost at the flood level of 24 feet. Mildred Beatrice Grant, 91, of Deweyville passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Mildred was born on November 27, 1924 in Tampa, Florida to parents Jesse and Mary Ellis. She has lived in Deweyville for 52 years and was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed going fishing with her late husband, working in her garden, and sewing. Mildred was a loving person who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. County Judge Brint Carlton showed his support for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation by speaking in favor of it at city council meetings in West Orange and Pinehurst on Tuesday. The Alpha Nu Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society welcomed over 30 new members for the fall 2015 semester. The Induction Ceremony was held at the Brown Estate, on Friday evening, December 4, 2015.
