Paul Joseph Blanda, 79, was born in Orange, Texas. Paul was the second of two sons born to Joseph and Lillian Blanda. He passed from this life December 29th, 2015 in the company of his wife, Lorie. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1954. He then attended and graduated from Lamar University in 1958 with a BS degree in Geology. Thursday River Update
The Sabine River in Deweyville has gone down slightly during the past two days, but the National Weather Service is expecting it to start rising again. This afternoon the forecast is for the river to reach 26.3 feet by Monday evening. At 26 feet, water begins to get into residences in the River Oaks and Indian Lake areas. The river this morning was at 24.6 feet, a half foot above the flood lever of 24 feet. The Sabine River Authority continues to have nine gates open at the Toledo Bend Reservoir dam upstream. The LCM Lady Bears competed in the East Chambers Holiday Classic this week. Their first game resulted in a loss to Goliad 27-40. Sheridan Rogers led with 14 pts., 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block. The Lady Bears then defeated East Chambers JV (who was a last minute entry after another varsity team dropped out) 51-19, Buna 43-38, and Huffman 43-32. Sheridan again led all scorers in the Buna game with 10 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Lack of Quorum at CC
Tuesday for the second week in a row there was no Commissioners Court meeting because there was a lack of a quorum. Last week the meeting was cancelled in advance because of the Christmas holiday, but the meeting was expected to be held this week. Only Commissioners Jody Crump (right) and Barry Burton (left), however, were present. It takes at least three members of the Court to be able to conduct county business.
