The City of Orange is pleased to report a positive response from the Greyhound Bus Company that it will be returning bus service to the Orange area. Jay Trahan the Director of Economic Development for Orange says that on behalf of Councilmember Essie Bellfield the city staff communicated with Greyhound several months ago to consider bringing bus transportation back to Orange. Greyhound has approved the resuming of bus service from the Exxon service station located at Highway 62 and Interstate 10 on the west side of Orange. On January 26, 2016 at 10:12 PM, officer’s from the City of Orange Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at 4514 W. Lutcher, McCoy’s Building Supply. Officers arrived and discovered a broken window and merchandise missing. After a search of the area, a suspect was located hiding in a grassy area. He has been identified as 30 year old Roger Dale Owens. During a search of the area of arrest several items of evidence were located and seized. Pinehurst Meetings Cut In Half
After cancelling city council meetings each of the last three months, the Pinehurst City Council approved Tuesday holding just one meeting a month starting in February. City Administrator Robbie Hood addressed the Council with the idea of holding just one scheduled city council meeting in the evening during a month. Hood said he would prefer to have his department heads attending to their work then being tied up giving reports which they did at the workshop meetings which were held the second Tuesday morning of each month. Cole Shines in WAC Track
Sophomore La'Shya Cole has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 18-24, the conference announced on Tuesday. Cole, a graduate of West Orange-Stark, swept both events she competed in. She led the team of Aggies that took the top three spots in the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.75m (38 ft. 7in.). In the Long Jump, she won with a mark of 5.61m (18 ft. 5 in.). Her marks in both events were a college best for Cole. She currently is second in the WAC in both events. County Needs Improvements
The representatives of Way Service gave a report Tuesday to the Commissioners Court on their energy efficiency study of the county’s buildings. County Judge Brint Carlton summarized the report saying the county will need to make improvements to the electrical, air conditioning, and mechanical equipment in most of the county’s buildings especially the jail. Way also looked at the options to repairing the marble façade on the front of the courthouse.
