The City of West Orange will hold its municipal election May 7 in a joint election with the West Orange-Cove School District. Both polling locations will be in the West Orange Community Center on Austin Street. The City Council approved calling the election during its meeting Monday evening. The positions are set for the girls teams in 22-4A. Silsbee had the night off and are the district champs. Orangefield, with a 57-41 win over Hamshire-Fannett, finish second. In a game heard on KOGT, LCM defeated Hardin-Jefferson 41-34 and will be in third place while the Hawks finish fourth despite having the same 7-5 mark. Both the Orangefield Varsity and JV golf teams competed in their first tournaments of the year. On Tuesday the Varsity team played in the Vidor Tournament at Brentwood Country Club, shooting a team total of 410, with senior Colby Cross leading the way with a score of 98. On Wednesday, the JV team played in the Anahuac Tournament at Chambers County, shooting a team total of 460, with junior Brenton Stanley leading the team with a score of 111. Anderson Not Running
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to have the motto In God We Trust placed on all City of Pinehurst vehicles. Alderman T. W. Permenter brought up the suggestion for the motto to be on the Pinehurst Police cars at the last city council meeting in January. City Attorney Tommy Gunn researched the idea and gave his opinion to the council before it voted. Gunn said that based on statements from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the movement by so many entities across the nation to use the motto he believes the city council has a right to put the motto on city vehicles.
