On Thursday February 11, 2016, around 11:30AM, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputies observed a white Volvo Tractor Trailer truck travelling eastbound failing to drive in a single lane. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 10 near the 861 mile marker. During the traffic stop, consent to search the vehicle was given and during the search of the vehicle, Deputy’s located 60 bundles of white powder believed to be cocaine. Last night, the Bridge City Powerlifting Team participated in the Nederland Invitational Meet. Overall the girls placed first and the boys placed third. Pinehurst Polycarts
Republic Trash Service collects the garbage in Pinehurst. City Administrator Robbie Hood said that beginning next week Republic will only pick up garbage in the large plastic containers they have provided to residences in Pinehurst. Hood indicated that the garbage pickup beginning on Tuesday Republic will only empty garbage from the large polycarts they have provided. Hood added that if a citizen wants an additional polycart they may be purchased through the City of Pinehurst at $5 apiece. Fire Truck Workshop
The Orange City Council will have a special meeting to "discuss the design, specifications and purchase of fire trucks." The public meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, in the training room of Central Fire Station. When City Manager Shawn Oubre presented the 2016 city budget to the council this past August, he told the council he wanted to use $375,000 the city is getting from a lawsuit against British Petroleum for a new pumper truck. Schedules Coming Together
The first order of business after coaches received the new realignments from the UIL February 2 is filling out the non-district part of the football schedule. It's a two year contract usually consisting of each team hosting a game. Some coaches like Jeff Mathews in Vidor only need to fill three games and others like Cornel Thompson at West Orange-Stark need six games. The Mustangs have had trouble in the past finding teams to play them but after a State Title it has become even more difficult. Wayside Horns At Green Ave.
Union Pacific Railroad has installed the Green Avenue wayside horns that have been needed before Orange gets a "quiet zone" to stop trains from blowing at every crossing. But the quiet zone will not come immediately, according to Jim Wolf, city public works director. "I can't tell you when, but it's close," he said. Two Arrested For Meth
Narcotics officers from the Orange Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested two men for possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon. Orange Police Sergeant J. Laughlin wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that a 2000 white Buick was stopped at 5 p.m. for not signaling a left turn from Strickland Drive onto MacArthur Drive.
