KRETSCHMAN, MICHAEL CARL. Mike was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on March 17, 1945 to Virginia (Rahr) and Carl Kretschman. Mike contracted polio at the age of 4 and spent much of his youth in and out of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Through what was then pioneering surgery, Mike was able to overcome the physical debilitation of polio, graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1963 and obtained a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1967. Orange Doesn’t Receive Grant
Orange at this time will not be getting a bike trail and parking lot at the Boat Ramp. Public Works Director Jim Wolf said the city did not get a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for the trail. Last April, the City Council in a split vote approved applying for the grant on the project that was estimated to cost $855,000. The city's share of the cost would have been $98,000. The grant was for alternative transportation. The bike trail was planned to start at the Simmons Drive Boat Ramp and an asphalt-paved parking lot with 150 spaces was in the design. An 18-year-old from Nederland was injured Sunday afternoon after he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving on MacArthur Drive. Orange police report the accident was caused by a red Mustang changing lane in front of two motorcyclists. The Mustang never stopped. Roosevelt Richardson was taken by Acadian Ambulance Service to Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.
