BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University senior Sarah Ragsdale became the first Lamar University softball player to be named a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team selection, CoSIDA announced Thursday. Ragsdale is now on the national ballot for Academic America team. Ragsdale, an exercise science major, has a perfect 4.00 grade-point average in the classroom. Lamar State College-Orange Recognize Student Academic Achievement at Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Induction Ceremony On Friday evening, April 29th, The Alpha Nu Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society welcomed over 30 new members for the spring 2016 semester. BC Coach Chad Landry works on some situational baseball with his Cards on Thursday. The Bridge City Cardinals will play Liberty in a best of three series beginning Friday in Liberty and Saturday in BC at 2pm for game two and three if necessary. Coach Chad Landry teams have played Liberty before with much success, but this year's team is different. "This isn't the same Liberty team we've played before," Landry said. BC Softball Faces Caldwell In Area
Lady Cardinal Coach Kayla Gallardo is in her first season as head coach. The Bridge City Lady Cardinals (29-2) play Caldwell in a best of three series in Livingston at Texas Slam Academy with Game One Friday night and Games Two and Three on Saturday. BC met Caldwell in the second round last season and defeated the Hornets in two games straight before losing to the eventual State Champs from Huffman. National Day Of Prayer Thursday
About 120 people attended the observance of the National Day of Prayer on the lawn of the Orange County Courthouse. A choir sang hymns and led the singing of the National Anthem to begin the program. County Judge Brint Carlton read the proclamation from the Commissioners Court recognizing the National Day of Prayer and prayed for members of the armed services. Dallas Is A Cover Boy
West Orange-Stark QB Jack Dallas has had a pretty good year so far and a better last two weeks. The WOS baseball team made the playoffs, he received his state championship ring, he received offers to play football and baseball at Lamar, and he recently won a contest to be on the cover of FNF (Friday Night Football) magazine. Sun Loan Gunman Sentenced
An Orange County jury Wednesday found a 24-year-old man guilty of aggravated robbery of the Sun Loan Co. and gave him a punishment of 30 years in state prison. Mason Paul Butler was accused of being the gunman when four young men robbed the 16th Street loan company on August 24, 2015. It was the second day-time robbery of the business in two months. The jury spent about 45 minutes to determine he was guilty. Witnesses included the woman working inside the business.
