To swim, or not to swim will be the question for people in Orange who use the city natatorium. Tuesday, City Manager and Doctor of Philosophy Shawn Oubre told the city council the opening of the pool depends on getting 10 lifeguards. He said 10 people applied for lifeguard positions and are going through Red Cross training to become certified. The city will need all 10 certified and willing to work in order to open the pool. Orange EDC Talks Water
The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation will look at ways to provide drinkable water to the industrial plants on Chemical Row. The water was one of the ways mentioned Tuesday to help get new business and keep established ones in the city. The city's Economic Development Corporation board of directors met with consultant John Johnson for an update on strategic economic development. Commissioners Meet
The Bass Champs Team Championship Tournament is coming to Orange in October. The Commissioners Court approved Tuesday allocating $30,000 of Hotel Occupancy Tax funds to the Greater Orange Chamber of Commerce to help sponsor the event. Chamber President Ida Schossow made the request for the funds with John Gothia who said the action by the Commissioners makes the tournament a done deal. Vinna Ann Hebert, 81, of Port Neches, Texas passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at April’s House of Angels. Vinna was born January 27, 1935 in Leroy, Louisiana to Lennis Bernard and Odette Landry Bernard. She graduated from Indian Bayou High School. Republican Runoff
Early voting for the Republican and Democratic primary runoff races will start Monday, May 16, and run through Friday, May 20. In Orange County, the only runoff race will be for Precinct 1 county commissioner. Bobby Manshack and Johnny Trahan are facing each other in the Republican primary. No Democrats are running in the November general election; so the Republican winner is the projected winner of the seat. The winner will replace David Dubose, who is retiring from the court.
