BC Joins Cities Against Loop
Bridge City has followed the cities of Vidor and Orange in approving a resolution opposing Orange County financing a Texas Department of Transportation roadway at the present time. The resolutions appear to be in opposition to the Commissioners Court continuing to consider financing the construction of FM Loop 299 in the Vidor Area. Jerry Jones the City Manager of Bridge City said the resolution the city council approved in his city was a copy of the one first approved by the Vidor City Council. New construction and remodeling projects were so slow in Orange during September that the biggest project was the installation of a new 9-1-1 tower at the police department. Shaffer Tower Service took out a permit for the project valued on the permit at $47,000. The communication tower is part of an upgrade of a regionwide system. The second most valuable permit was for a $35,000 billboard for Rogers Lumber Company, 8438 Highway 90. A business at 111 Green Avenue is getting a $24,000 commercial add-on. Police Say Still No Clues In Homicide
September 28 had a warm fall evening. At the Sabine Park Apartments, people usually congregate in the main parking lot to socialize or sit out on a stoop. A little after 8 that evening, 20-year-old Jeremiah Klinkhammer was shot to death in the parking lot. Orange Police Captain Robert Enmon said someone must have seen the shooting or what led to it. Investigators though, have not found someone who can lead to the person who pulled the trigger. WOS Travels To H-J Without Brown
Last Friday the West Orange-Stark Mustangs rolled to a big 68-0 win over the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns in the opening game of district. Coach Cornel Thompson indicates unfortunately the Mustangs lost a key player on defense in that game. Linebacker Justin Brown (#6), who Thompson calls the quarterback of the WO-S defense, broke two bones in his right arm and will be out four to six weeks. The coach adds a few other players are limping around with sore ankles, but they should be ready to go Friday.
