BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University Cardinals signed 15 high school standouts to National Letters of Intent, and added five transfers (three junior college and two FBS) announced first-year head coach Mike Schultz at a press conference in the Dauphin Athletics Complex Wednesday afternoon. The signing class puts a focus on offensive talent with 13 of the signees coming on the offensive side of the ball. Brown Transfers To Ark State
2014 LCM grad Marvis Brown ( 6-3, 337) has transferred from Tyler Junior College to Arkansas State. This season in Tyler he was named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Second-Team All-American. Old Schools To Be Renovated
The Brazoria County Alternative Academy with the Houston Chinese Chamber of Commerce as a partner will be renovating the former West Orange intermediate and Lorena Oates elementary schools. The school on Western Avenue will be converted for 25 rooms for homeless veterans and 25 student apartments to support Lamar State College-Orange. Hogan Sentenced To Prison
A 47-year-old former Orange County Sheriff’s Detective has been sentenced to federal prison for violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston today. Chad Wayne Hogan, of Orange, Texas, pleaded guilty on Sep. 6, 2016, to money laundering and was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone. Commissioners Meet
The Commissioners discussed possible changes to the county’s Travel Policy Tuesday afternoon. County Auditor Pennee Schmitt reviewed several proposed changes to the current Travel Policy including the maximum amount allowed for overnight accommodations without Commissioners approval. The first item mentioned was the cap on the cost of accommodations for overnight travel. The current limit is $150 and recently the Commissioners have granted several exceptions to the policy.
