The Bridge City Independent School District celebrated the opening of the new Bridge City High School Band Hall with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday afternoon. Superintendent Todd Lintzen did the honors in cutting the Cardinal red ribbon. Band Director Tami Goss said she and all the band members are excited to move into their new facility in the last week. Golf Tournament April 24
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. is hosting a Golf Tournament on April 24, at Sunset Grove Country Club. This is the not-for-profit organization’s spring fundraising event, and all proceeds will go toward its Grant-To-Educators program, which has funded 163 grants for a total of just under $197,000. Since 2004. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and the shot gun start is at 8 a.m. There will be trophies awarded first place, and all players’ names will be entered for door prizes, one of which is a round of golf for 4 at Tour 18 in Humble. Sunday afternoon Orange firefighters were called to 2419 McKee for a house fire. Preliminary reports were that a woman was cleaning with some type of chemical and it caught fire. Man Lucky At RR Crossing
On Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 3:12 pm, officers with the City of Orange Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 blk of Link Ave in reference to a Train vs Pedestrian Accident. Upon officer’s arrival, it was discovered that a 55 year old black male disregarded the train crossing arms and attempted to push his bicycle across the tracks in the 1200 blk of Link while a train was coming. The train struck the rear of the bicycle causing the pedestrian to fall to the ground. LCMCISD Projects Moving Along
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District has been working to upgrade and renovate all the education facilities in the district for close to two years. Completion of construction on most of the schools will be done before the start of next school year. Assistant Superintendent Greg Perry with the LC-M School District is overseeing the construction and admitted it took a little while to get started because of a few problems. Horace Earl "Gorilla" Puckett, 69 of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 22nd, 2017, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont, Texas. Born in Big Spring, Texas, on April 2, 1947, he was the son of Hollis and Mildred Puckett. Horace served in the United States Air Force, was a Mason, and was also a member of the Shriners. He spent many years donating his time and energy raising money for the Shrine Burn Center through an organization he helped found, called "Fireball Association".
