Just after 5pm on Thursday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who said a man was holding her hostage at gunpoint in a home they share in the 3900 block of Lakeview Cutoff in Vidor.
Before police arrived the woman was able to escape through a window.
Captain Joey Jacobs said deputies tried to contact the man inside, Kenneth Edward Malhood, 48, but he would not respond. They attempted to reach him by several different methods. One of those included using their robot to enter the home. When they did they found Malhood deceased from one gunshot
The woman said when she escaped through the window and ran through the front yard, she thought she heard a gunshot from inside, but she wasn’t sure.
Judge Rodney Price has call for an autopsy. Vidor PD, Vidor ISD PD, and SWAT assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
