Gov. Greg Abbott has launched the Texas Classroom Commission, a teacher-led initiative aimed at improving public education and student achievement.
The commission will bring together current and retired public school teachers from across Texas to develop recommendations on classroom instruction, teacher support, school environments and student preparation.
Among the 21 member committee is Hannah Landry, who is in her 17th year as a math teacher at Bridge City High School.
The recommendations will be presented to Abbott, the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Legislature ahead of the 90th Legislative Session.
The commission will be led by Courtney Boswell MacDonald of Kerrville, a former teacher and current chair of the State Board for Educator Certification.
