
Judy “Ms. Judy” Platt Richard, 70, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Houston Methodist Hospital. A lifelong resident of Vidor, Judy was a beloved member of her community whose kindness, musical talent, and servant’s heart touched countless lives throughout the years.
Judy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Vidor, where she served as accompanist for 55 years. Through her music ministry, she faithfully shared her talents and love for the Lord with generations of church members. She also served as accompanist for Vidor High School for 30 years, where she touched the hearts of many students and faculty members alike. Judy was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was known for her warm spirit and caring nature.
A proud honor graduate of Vidor High School’s Class of 1973, Judy carried her love for music throughout her entire life. Along with music, her family was one of her greatest passions. She also enjoyed traveling and shopping, creating many cherished memories with those she loved most.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Don Richard of Vidor, Texas; daughter, Mandy Hoge and husband Eric of Vidor, Texas; son, Adam Richard of Hurst, Texas; brother, Gary Platt and wife Karrie of Vidor, Texas; grandchildren, A.J. and Tori Hoge; cousin who was like a sister to Judy, Paula Stauss and husband Donnie of Ocala, Florida; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Margaret Platt.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Vidor’s Music Fund in honor of Judy’s lifelong dedication to music ministry.
