
The Celebration of life for Mr. John T. Richard, Sr., 91, of Vinton, LA, will be Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11am, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Vinton under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Rites of Christian Burial will follow at Edgerly Memorial Cemetery in Edgerly, LA
Visitation will be from 10 until 10:30am. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:30am.
John Thomas Richard Sr. was born to Beatrice (Williams) Richard and Theo Richard on January 10, 1934, in Church Point, Louisiana.
He was baptized at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point, Louisiana. He made his First Communion and Confirmation at St. Therese Catholic Church in Orange, Texas, where he was a member until he relocated to Vinton, Louisiana. He then became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he remained until his death.
John attended the old Moton High School before the school’s name changed to Emma H. Wallace High School. He later transferred to St. Therese Little Flower Catholic School, where he completed his education, graduating from the eighth grade on May 25, 1952.
Serving his country thru the United States Army, he was Discharged With Honors.
He worked for Consolidated Steel, American Bridge, Zito’s Construction Company, Orion Engineered Carbons, LP, Levingston Shipbuilding, West Orange-Cove CISD, Calcasieu Parish Drainage District, and Delta Downs Racetrack.
He united in Holy Matrimony with Priscilla Mae Ceaser at St. Therese Catholic Church on June 17, 1961. To this union, seven children were born: John Jr., Martin, George, Abraham, Patricia, Jonathan, and JoAnn.
His summons from earthly life came on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Forever cherishing his memory are five sons, John Jr. (Tammy), George Richard, Jonathan (Taffy), all of Orange, Texas, and Abraham (Darlene) of Port Arthur, Texas; two daughters, Patricia Richard of Vinton, Louisiana, and JoAnn Benjamin (Steve) of Port Arthur, Texas; one sister, Mary Spears of Angleton, Texas; two brothers, Edward Richard and Herman Richard (Mona), both of Orange, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla; his parents, Beatrice and Theo Richard; seven brothers, William Richard, James Curley Richard, Joseph Clarence Richard, Lee Joseph Richard, Gerald Richard, Vincent Richard, and Theodore Michael Richard; and seven sisters, Lucy Jones, Beatrice Fezia, Rose Richard, Geraldine Richard, Margaret Turner, Joyce Ann Richard, and Mary Catherine Richard ;and two grandsons, Gary DeWayne White and Reginald Carl (Reggie) Garrett Jr.
