
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of John Gallet Sr. on June 26, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born in Maurice, LA on May 2, 1931. He was the youngest son of Albert and Helen Gallet. He went to school in LA through grade 8 and started working shortly after. Taking up boxing as one of his hobbies.
In 1951, at the age of 20, he joined the United States Air Force. During his service, his most significant Duty Assignment was the 81st Air Police Squadron. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1952, he was noted in the Vermont Sunday News as being part of the Fort Ethan Allen, 12-man boxing team as favorites in the Vermont Golden Gloves tournament, competing as their light heavyweight class, 175 lbs. In 1955, he was honorably discharged from the service.
After the Air Force he moved back to the Port Arthur, TX area and started working at Gulf Port Shipbuilding, where he worked his way up to nighttime supervisor over new construction of offshore oil with jack-up rigs. He made his career there joining the Boil Maker- Blacksmith Union.
When he retired, he resided in Orange, TX.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Gallet; son, John Gallet, Jr. and wife Rhonda; grandson, Shawn Gallet and wife Kallye; and great grandchildren, Scout, Knox and Journee; along with numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jimmie Gallet; parents, Albert and Helen; brothers, Lauris Gallet, and Louis Gallet (Floyd).
Family will receive friends Wednesday July 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m., until the funeral service at 3:00 p.m., at Dorman Riley Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 8808 SH 87, Orange, Texas. Reverend Mike Streams will be officiating. The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice for their care during his last few months.
