Joette Evans Webb, born July 12, 1936, in Swift town, Mississippi to Pleas Evans Sr. and Lela Mann Evans. Joette passed away on July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family in College Station, Texas. She lived a full and faithful life marked by devotion to her husband, family, church, and community.
Joette spent her early years in Swift town, Ms. before her family moved to Texas in 1948. She graduated in 1954 from Lutcher Stark High School and was a proud member of the original Bengal Guard rope twirlers. She had the special privilege of twirling her 50 foot rope during half times and a bowl game. Those who knew her remember her vibrant spirit, enthusiasm, and joyful personality during those formative years.
On August 31, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles H. Webb, at First Christian Church in Orange, Texas. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, commitment, and partnership for nearly 60 years.
Early in their marriage, Joette and Charles shared many adventures together, including their involvement with the Aqua Demons and Debs Ski Club. One of their most memorable accomplishments was water skiing 100 miles from Orange to Galveston—a true testament to their adventurous spirit and the joy they shared together.
Together they built a wonderful life in Orange, Texas, where Joette devoted herself to raising her family and serving her community. She worked at Del-Dixi, sold Avon and Tupperware, and spent many years as a bank teller at County National Bank. Joette was a longtime volunteer and Board Member for Orange Christian Services. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and never met a stranger. Her daughters and granddaughter often joked that they could never get away with anything because she knew everyone.
Joette faithfully organized many of her high school reunions, a labor of love that brought classmates together year after year. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and making crafts. Her home was a place of love, stability, laughter, and faith.
Each grandchild received a treasured photo album from their Grandmother upon graduating from high school, and every grandchild was given one of her handwritten recipe books as a wedding gift—keepsakes that will forever remind them of her love.
Joette’s faith was the foundation of her life. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church and McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in Orange, Tx. Her church family was deeply important to her, and her relationship with Christ guided the way she loved and cared for others. She was involved in Bible Study Fellowship while living in Orange.
In 2016, Joette and her beloved furry little companion, Bella, moved to Bryan–College Station to be closer to family. Family was everything to her, and she poured her heart into every generation that followed. One of her greatest blessings was being able to know and love all four of her great-grandchildren.
Joette was preceded in death by her parents, Pleas Evans Sr. and Lela Mann Evans Bard; her stepfather, Allen Bard; her beloved husband, Charles H. Webb; her sisters-in-law, Jeanette Evans and Virginia Merrington; and her brothers-in-law, Gil Turner, Richard Merrington, and Duane Webb.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Rhonda Jo Webb and Suzanne Moreau, and her son-in-love, Chuck Moreau; her grandchildren, Brandon Moreau and his wife, Sarah; Amanda Jade Hope and her husband, Steven; Chandler Moreau and his wife, Danielle; and Dustin Moreau and his wife, Ellie; and her four great-grandchildren, Eli Moreau, Beverly Kate Moreau, Moriah Grace Moreau, and Dakota Rae Moreau, who lovingly knew her as “JoJo.”
She is also survived by her brothers, Pleas Evans and his wife, Doris, and Paul Evans and his wife, Barbara; her sisters-in-law, Billie Webb and Joann Turner; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Her family will forever cherish her joyful laughter, quick wit, stubbornness and wonderful sense of humor. During the final season of her life, Joette was surrounded by extraordinary love and compassionate care. Her family is deeply grateful for the caregivers at Generations of Love and Luminous Hospice, who treated her with such dignity, tenderness, and kindness. We also thank Claybar funeral home for guiding us through this process.
Joette will be deeply missed and forever cherished. While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice knowing she is finally Home. The family will have a small private memorial service at a later date.
On the eve of what would have been her 90th birthday, she entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she is celebrating with the love of her life once again. What a glorious reunion that must have been.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so can make memorial contributions to McDonald Memorial Baptist Church or Orange Christian Services.
