
Garon Gomez and Lacey Cupp were awarded the male and female athlete of the year at the Community Christian School Athletic Banquet for 2026.
This year Garon Gomez participated in cross country, tennis, track, and he was also the basketball videographer for Varsity Boys.
A standout player in tennis, Garon won 9 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the local public school tournaments throughout the season. He was also the TCAL State Champion in Division 1 and Division 2 in Boys Singles. Garon was the Tennis MVP for CCS this year. Coach Havens, one of his tennis coaches said, “What can I say about this young man? Garon is on of the most dedicated individuals that I have ever seen. His focus and mindset is to play smart. His game is one of focus and integrity. Never give up is his mantra. He is calm and always working towards the next game or point. At the Beaumont Tennis Center he competed against the best of the best im 1A to 6A schools. I credit his dad with all his improvements, because Coach Gomez is working with him at every practice.”
In his other sports he also received Most Improved in Cross Country, and at the TCAL State Cross Country meet he helped his team to a Runner-up finish. In track, Garon won 3 medals in the TCAL State Track Meet-3rd in 100m, 2nd in the 4×100, and 1st in 4×400, which once again helped his team to an Overall Runner-up finish.
Lacey Cupp, our female athlete of the year, played basketball and volleyball. She was the overall MVP and Offensive MVP for Basketball. As one of the senior players in volleyball, Lacey was awarded the Leadership award from her coaches for being a driving force to getting the team to work together. Coach Corey Cowart, the athletic director said, “Lacey’s competitiveness is unmatched, always striving to make herself and her teammates better. She was a great leader and is well deserving to be recognized as the Female Athlete of the Year.”
