Bobcats walk it off 1-0 in the Area Round series against Van Vleck!
The Bobcats rode on the back of another stellar outing from Carson Gonzales, as well as some clutch defense to keep the Leopards off the board.
In the 4th, Easton Sprayberry and Logan Anderson executed a relay to perfection on a 2 out double and Carson Worthy applied the tag to nail what would have been the go ahead run at the plate.
In the very next inning, staring down a leadoff runner on third with no outs, the Bobcat defense came through again. The Leopards laid down a bunt to pitcher Carson Gonzales, who recorded the out at first to second baseman Cole Sanches who was covering the bag. Sanches then nailed the runner trying to advance home at the plate for a momentum killing double play. Gonzales went the distance for his second consecutive shutout, scattering 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.
The Bobcat offense got it done when it mattered most in the bottom of the 7th. After Layne Reynolds led off the inning with a single, Carson Worthy laid down a sacrifice bunt to get a runner in scoring position. However, the throw to first was bobbled, setting the Bobcats up with runners on first and second with no outs. Rylan Agerton then laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line and forced an errant throw to first, allowing Layne Reynolds to score from 3rd for the walk off winner.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday for game 2 of the series at Baytown Lee beginning at 2 PM.
