Freddy Shores was born on November 13th, 1942, in Vivian, Louisiana and passed from this life into eternal rest with Jesus on August 3, 2026, in Orange, Texas at the age of 83 years. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Ladner Shores; parents, Fred and Carron Shores; sister, Peggy Michael; brother, Hank Shores; and one great granddaughter, Heidi Newell.
Freddy is survived by his daughter, Teri Newell and husband Keith; his son, Todd Shores and wife Jill; Cindy Burton; one sister, Cheryl Wilfer and husband, Lawrence; sister-in-law Clarene Anderson and husband, John; grandchildren Shawn (Rachel), Elana (Ryan), Elizabeth (Matthew), Rebekah and Grace; Jessica (Cliff), Zach, Josh (Haley), Levi (Morgan); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren.
Freddy, one of the founders and a faithful member of the Creekwood Church of Christ, would want any remembrance of his life to begin with Jesus. Baptized at the age of 16, he devoted his life to loving and serving the Lord.
For the past year, each evening ended with singing hymns and sharing a prayer with his daughter. As Freddy took his final breath on this earth and entered his eternal rest, his family stood around him in prayer—a fitting farewell for a man whose life centered on Christ and a beautiful transition into eternity.
Freddy treasured his family and faithfully instilled in them a love for the Lord and the joy of serving Him. Together, Freddy and Mary opened their home and hearts to countless people, generously helping others. Hard work lay at the very core of Freddy’s character and he rarely passed up the opportunity to tackle a project, often working with a group of family members and friends he had recruited. Whether serving the church, helping a neighbor, or swinging a hammer to build homes for his sister, son, and daughter, as well as planning and masterminding multiple church buildings, Freddy’s tenacious spirit and determination to get the job done—as fast as possible—were remarkable.
Freddy launched the first of many entrepreneurial ventures at just 12 years old, pushing a lawn mower through the Riverside neighborhood and mowing yards for as little as a quarter. His famous line, “It’s not how much you make, but how much you spend,” served him well in all aspects of financial success.
He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps for three years. After his military service, he became a pipefitter apprentice, working alongside his father, uncle, and lifelong friends while traveling across the country to job sites with Local Union 195.
After several years in construction, Freddy founded Constructors and Fabricators. He built more than a business—he built a close-knit team of dedicated employees, many of whom were family members and fellow Christians.
He sold his company at fifty-two so he could pursue other interests. He cherished traveling, raising cattle and hay, working the farm with his tractor and heavy equipment, and spoiling grandkids. He loved his cows (calling them to feed by yelling, “Come on, babay!!!”); He would go about his acres on the “hoopy”, his beloved term for a side by side, looking for his next project or a stump to dig. His adventurous spirit led him to all fifty states, making many memories along the way with his sisters. Freddy shared a special bond with his sister Cheryl and loved to reminisce and laugh with his mouth wide open over their many memories together.
Freddy’s time on earth was long, and his life was rich and full. God blessed him tremendously and those blessings glorified His Lord and King, Jesus Christ. He fought a good fight. He finished his course. He kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness. A special thanks to the wonderful care given to Freddy by his daughter and son-in-law, his grandchildren, his sister, and his devoted caregiver, Radreka.
Graveside services will begin at 10:07 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2026 in Mt. Sinai Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Brad Benoit officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Gary Williams, Tommy Polk, Charlie Shelton, Geoff Davis, Devon Gentzler and Garrett Glawson. Honorary pallbearers are Barry Thibodaux, Donnie Reider and Phillip Welch. Military honors will be provided by Sabine County Honor Guard.
