Ron Dischler is running for Orange County Sheriff. He officially made his announcement April 11 in front of friends, family and supporters during a Meet and Greet at the Orange County Expo Center, just a few miles from his home.
Dischler, 65, will run as a Republican in the March 2024 Primary. Current Orange County Tax Assessor Collector Karen Fisher is his Treasurer.
He began by recognizing former and current law officers in the room of about 70 people. They included former Sheriff Keith Merritt, former Chief Deputy John Tarver, former Pinehurst Chief Jimmy LeBouef, Danny Moore with Vidor PD, and Prec. 4 Constable Matt Ortego. Also in attendance were former Commissioner Theresa Beauchamp and current Orange City Councilman David Bailey.
Dischler also recognized his family including his wife Janelle who said, “He really wants to do this and I’ll be with him every step of the way.”

The proud Eagle Scout who was born in Crane, Tx. went through his resume that includes 41 years in law enforcement, the majority of that with Beaumont PD.
He spent 24 years as a patrol officer, six as an investigator, 8 as a Patrol Sargeant and 5 as a Patrol Watch Commander. He’s also worked/trained with SWAT, Terrorism, Explosives, Gangs, Drugs and the Rescue Squad.
Dischler then talked about his platform and started with having quality people working for him. “You can have $10 million dollars of top of the line tech equipment but if you don’t have quality, trained employees, you have ten million in junk.” He followed that by saying there are some quality employees at the Sheriff’s Office now and he doesn’t see a wide sweep when he’s elected, but he stressed he would interview everyone individually.
He wants to create a Reserve Deputy Unit, adding that’s how he got started. He wants to start a Chaplain Unit and will start talking with church leaders, saying “the value of such a unit is immeasurable.” They currently have a Chaplain Unit in Beaumont.
He also plans, if elected, to work with all other county law enforcement agencies and make sure that they are all on the same page so that they all will work together for a safe environment for the citizens. And with the Fentanyl/Meth problems we have, Dischler will create a “top notch” Narcotics Unit.
He said he looks forward to visiting with the voters throughout his campaign and is willing to listen and talk about the job because “we have to work together. No one can do this alone.”
