Bridge City will be looking for a new head volleyball coach as Savanah DeLuna has decided to step down after four seasons with the Cardinals.
Coming over from West Brook, DeLuna lead the Cardinals to three district titles and three trips to the third round of the playoffs.
“I’ve been coaching volleyball for 15 years and my son starts as a freshman next year at Nederland High School. So I’ve been coaching his whole life. I’m ready to be that loud mom in the stands for him and home more for my husband and my two younger children,” she said.
DeLuna said it was a tough decision. “It was hard because I love these kids and I appreciate my time here at Bridge City. These are good kids, on and off the court, and I’ll be keeping up with them as they prepare for the fall.”
It will not be a “next coach up” for BC as Athletic Director Josh Smalley told KOGT that DeLuna’s assistant coach Rylee Oceguera Shugart is also stepping away from coaching. Smalley said the job is posted and applications are being accepted.
