Orangefield’s Carson Gonzales pitched a masterful game Wednesday. The problem was Hardin’s Jayden Phelps did too. The Hornets scored in the top of the seventh to beat the Bobcats 1-0 and hand them their first district loss.
The offensive minded Bobcats were held to no runs on five hits. Phelps struck out six and walked two. Gonzales threw a complete game giving up one run on six hits with 10K’s and one walk.
Phelps helped himself at the plate with a double in the seventh. He advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a wild pitch for what would be the winning run. OF had two on in the bottom of the seventh after a single by Kyler Green and a walk to Logan Anderson when Cole Sanches flied out to end the game.
The Bobcats fall to 11-1 and Hardin improves to 7-5. The game was moved to Wednesday because both teams had golfers playing in the Regional Tournament on Tuesday.
