The Port of Orange held a reception Monday for longtime attorney Alan Sanders, thanking him for his 30 plus years serving as the attorney for the Port.
“We appreciate everything Alan has done for us,” said Executive Director Lorrie Taylor. “His time and dedication will not be forgotten.”
Sanders moved from Orange years ago to live in Galveston but continued to make the monthly trip to the Port for the board meetings. Then a couple of years ago he moved to Tyler to be close to his grandkids and still made the monthly trip.
“I was honored to still be able to do it and help out people in my hometown,” Sanders said. “I’ve been able to work with some other organizations in Orange as well. But the trips from Tyler are getting a little long for me but the Port will be in good hands.”
Taylor said the Port has replaced Sanders with Beaumont Attorney Chris Leavins (below), who is also the City Attorney with the City of West Orange.
The Port presented Sanders with a bell. “Historically, the key to the city was a powerful resource, as it allowed free access through the city gate. While this may not be a key to the city, it is a bell to the Port of Orange. Ship bells have been part of the traditions of the world’s navies and merchant fleet for centuries for both functional and ceremonial uses. Used for signaling, keeping time, and sounding alarms as well as announcing the presence of important people. And we’re honored to present one to Alan.”
