Join The W.H. Stark House during Art After 5 on Thursday, July 30, at 6:00 PM for “Glass as Studio Practice,” a lecture in which Alexander Rosenberg examines glass as a creative discipline, from concept to finished work. Presented by The W.H. Stark House, the lecture will be held at the Stark Museum of Art in the Walter G. Riedel III Education Center, 712 Green Avenue in downtown Orange.
Featured on Netflix’s “Blown Away,” Rosenberg gained international recognition as a top three finalist on the show, displaying his use of light and clear glass rather than color to create compelling works of art. As Assistant Director of the UC San Diego Glass Center, he pursues his work through artist residencies, teaching, performances and exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
Rosenberg is a contemporary glass artist known for experimental work exploring perception, form and material process. As an artist, educator and writer, he has introduced audiences to the possibilities of studio glass through his innovative practice and research.

Rosenberg’s lecture offers an opportunity to explore the art of glass in new ways, while exhibitions across the Stark Cultural Venues feature the medium from both historical and artistic perspectives. The “Brilliant: Cut Glass from The W.H. Stark House” exhibition on view in the Carriage House showcases Miriam Lutcher Stark’s remarkable collection of American Brilliant Cut Glass – one of the largest collections in the southern United States – and celebrates her appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship of glass. Visitors to the Stark Museum of Art can also experience “The Color Orange,” a fitting complement that invites guests to consider the role of orange in art, including the fact that, when heated during the glassmaking process, all glass glows orange.
